This video is fantastic. I especially like the way he goes against conventional wisdom about for example post frequency - and at the same time creates a very, very successful blog.

I haven't really noticed any benefits to my business from using social media. Of course, I haven't a clue how to really utilize that service to it's full potential yet. I keep reading about "targeting your audience" and all that SEO BS, but I still don't know what any of it means. Until then I guess using something like Twitter is just a hobby more than a help.

Great post, but I think there's one part of social media from which every company can benefit—listening. Even if you sell ball bearings—and you're right, there's probably not a pent up demand for a ball bearing blog!—there could be comments and questions online that your company could benefit from responding to. I don't know anything about ball bearings, so if I needed some, I'd probably go on Google and look, and then maybe ask my network what they could tell me about what I found. Even if it's only an occasional mention, it's probably worth the few minutes to set up some free tools and have them email you if there's a relevant conversation.

Have you tried the "Exclude Pages from Navigation" plugin by Simon Wheatley? I know its excludes pages, without having to change code, but not sure abut categories.

Well, Zero sum rule doesnt apply everywhere atleast when its related to Business. If your strategy and planning is good, then Business can be a win win situation for all parties involved instead of Zero sum .

Hey Beau,

Great post, I totally agree with your thoughts. For me, the exciting parts of my past businesses are a) strategy (i.e. determining what course of action to take in order to reach a goal) and b) the chase (trying to land accounts, clients, money)... It's what leads to success...if more people got excited about those two parts of business, I think they would find higher sales, better prospects and great relationships built in the process.
